Youth Center Gabrovo invites you on November 25, Saturday, at 11 a.m., in the art gallery "Hristo Tsokev", to paint together women's strength and courage!
The event is dedicated to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - 25 November - and aims to raise public awareness of the problem, support victims of violence and unite more people in the search for a solution.
On Saturday we invite all young people between 15 and 29 years old, and all art lovers - young and old - to join us. The motto of our art workshop is "Painting female strength and courage". Everyone is welcome to draw on paper their interpretation of the theme and thus to support, to encourage towards change, to challenge society to speak up and lend a hand, to look for workable solutions.
We have also invited mentors - Gabrovo artists to help us clarify our ideas and present them in the best way.
The result of our creative day will travel over the next 16 days to different institutions and will include Gabrovo in the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. We will end on 10 December - Human Rights Day.
During the event a special corner was organized with materials and booklets with information about the types of domestic violence, phone numbers where you can get advice and help, stickers in support of the cause, books for young people on love and sexual maturation, etc.
Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread and gross violations of human rights in our world today. It goes largely unreported due to the silence of the victims, a result of the social stigma that still accompanies harassment, and the lack of adequate sentencing for perpetrators.
According to NSI data, one of the most common perpetrators of violence against women is their intimate partner, and this includes unwanted experiences with current and/or former partner(s), covering psychological, sexual and
physical violence (including intimidation). Survey data show that 20.5% of women aged 18-74 in the country who currently have or have ever had a partner have experienced one or more incidents of violence by
intimate partner. Young women (aged between 18 and 29) are at the highest risk of intimate partner violence compared to women in other age groups. One in three women aged 18-29 has been abused by a current or former partner (36.3%). Among women aged 30 - 44, the relative proportion who had experienced partner violence was 22.5%.
According to the survey, 5.9% of women aged 18-74 have experienced physical violence (including threats) or sexual violence by someone other than their partner in their adult lifetime.
12.2% of women aged 18-74 in the country have experienced sexual harassment at work by a man.
