On World Environment Day - 5 June we organize cinema and things exchange

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Gabrovo Youth Center organized a projection of the documentary "The True Cost" and a friendly exchange of belongings.

The event will take place at the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Center at 5:30 p.m. and aims to draw attention to our behavior as consumers - the amount of clothes we use and the environmental impact their production has.

Filmed in countries around the world, from the most glamorous catwalks to the grimmest neighbourhoods, the film features interviews with some of the most influential figures in the fashion world and the people who are paid minimum wage to produce them. The film is by internationally acclaimed director Andrew Morgan and pulls aside the curtain on the invisible part of our world, asking us to consider the true cost of our consumerist behaviour.

After the film projection we will have a discussion where we will discuss what we saw in the film through our own wardrobe and consumer behaviour. The discussion will also include representatives from the Regional Landfill for Non-Hazardous Waste in the town of Gabrovo and the Sustainable Development Directorate of Gabrovo Municipality. The event will end with a friendly swap. Each participant can bring clothes or items that are in good condition but they are tired of and would like to exchange. The requirement is to take at least as much as they have brought, and also to take back things that have not found a new owner.

Through the exchange, we want to start a series of similar events leading to more sustainable consumption of clothes and goods, to limit the waste of resources and to help the environment at least a little.
