Norway – our longest day

Nearly 20 hours of light! Getting dark almost at midnight and the sun rising outside at five - Gabrovo Youth Center likes this very much! Imagine how many activities for young people we can organize in that time! Unfortunately, we can't get this long day from Norway, and it goes with an equally long night in winter. But we learned and "got" many useful things from our trip to the north.

It took place from July 26 to 29 and 35 people - youth workers, young people and volunteers were guests of our partners from the University of Green Development in the city of Brune. We were welcomed both by professors from the university and by our guests last year, who still remember the nature of Uzana and the wonderful Uzana meadow fest!

The first day was dedicated to more serious work in the hall - we learned a lot about Norway, its riches, economy and human potential, as well as about sustainable development and our role in it. We talked about how to sift through good ideas with potential, and also about youth as an asset on which change, policy and action depend. We also learned about the activities of the Norwegian Trekking Association, which organizes and supports various hiking trips, organizes events, academies for young mountain leaders, climbing courses, outdoor camps, ski tours and kayaks. Its activities are preferred by young people, and we had the opportunity to feel first-hand how it all happens on the second day of our visit to Norway, when we went on a hike to the Monafossen waterfall. It is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Rogaland, beautiful with the two arcs it formed during our stay there and majestic with its 92 meters height. The route is not long, but for a large part of it you pull yourself up with the help of chains, and if you put in a little more effort, you can also enjoy the incredible view at the Mon farm - a lush valley with animals and a cold river.

We hope that our friendship with the Norwegian Trekking Association will continue in the future, because their work with young people and the skills they pass on to them are extremely valuable and interesting, and until then - we are already in Bulgaria - a more cohesive, smiling and inspired team of volunteers and youth workers at the Youth Center - Gabrovo.
