The mayor of Gabrovo, Tanya Hristova, opened the event "European Year of Youth: 2022 - your year!". It aims to support young people by emphasizing new perspectives and opportunities; to encourage them, especially those with fewer opportunities, disadvantaged, from rural or remote areas or belonging to vulnerable groups, to become active citizens and agents of positive change; to promote the opportunities that EU policies provide to young people to support their personal, social and professional development.
For three days, more than 40 young people from Gabrovo and the country will participate in group discussions about the possibilities and potential of young people. In search of new formats of engagement, young people will be guided by mentors to develop their own models of empowerment, so that in the landmark European Year of Youth, their path to full inclusion in the development and progress of our society is set for more a good future that is greener, more inclusive and digital.
Tanya Hristova congratulated the participants - young people from 14 to 29 years old, and wished them to win their battles with knowledge and skills, and to rarely have to say "this won't happen".
"You are called to be the people who will make the important decisions. You will have to decide if war has a place in our world, you are the ones who will have to ensure that the planet will continue to be hospitable for your great-great-grandchildren, you will have to uphold and develop democratic values. Therefore, in addition to boldness and youth, there are many responsibilities in your hands. You must step by step walk the path with us - the slightly older ones. Not to teach you, not to edify you, but to discover the solutions together. There is nothing better than taking a young person where they want to go. But to lead him not by carrying him, but only sometimes by helping him not to go out of the way, is the safest. Therefore, I am convinced that your discussions today, your arguments today and insistence on quick changes and decisions, will be extremely important to understand how strong the Gabrovo youth parliament will be. You are the pioneers. So far, such an initiative has not happened in Gabrovo. You will remain with your names forever in the history of the democratic development of Gabrovo. And I hope that with those who will help you, provoke and reconcile, you will build the most important points of support that will enable the youth parliament to participate actively in the life of Gabrovo," the mayor of Gabrovo told the youth.
The event is organized by the Regional Information Center - Gabrovo under the project "Ensuring the functioning of the OIC-Gabrovo during the period 2022 - 2023". It is supported by the Gabrovo Youth Center, Gabrovo Municipality and European Information Center "Europe Direct Gabrovo".
The results of the event will be presented on Wednesday, at 11:30 a.m. in the Mak Hotel, in front of representatives of the Municipality of Gabrovo and Municipal Council - Gabrovo, RUO, school principals and pedagogical advisors, non-governmental organizations.
